Welcome
The Macedonian Orthodox Church ``St. Nedela`` has been the centre of the Macedonian community in the Durham region for 30 years.
On September 23rd, 1993, a Charter and church congregation were formed. The idea was initiated by Ljupcho Anceski, who became the first president of the church congregation. After many meetings, ideas, fund raising and discussions the group found a location at Bayly St and Westney Rd in Ajax. A lot of 1 hectare (2+1⁄2 acres) was purchased for a price of $450,000 CAD. In September of 1995, a portable church was built, and it was blessed by the Archbishop Mihail. This church was later donated at no cost to the organization United Macedonians. The ground-breaking and construction for the main church began on September 17, 2000, with the blessing of Archbishop Stephen, Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia.
Within two years, the structure was completed and on September 08, 2002, was day that Macedonians in the Durham region will celebrate forever – the Consecration of the Macedonian Orthodox Church “St. Nedela”, in Ajax. The president in that time was Mitre Cacevski.
As of 2020, the church managed a Macedonian community center, a banquet hall accommodating up to 250 guests, a woman’s auxiliary, Sunday school and a folklore dancing group.
